There I was taking a break from work. My head really hurt so I had to do something else besides documenting my freakin' project...
I glanced around my desktop and found my iPod. Hmmm... it has been a while since I've updated the Album Art of my recently downloaded songs (yes, yes yes. I admint I'm one of those iPod-freaks who wants all songs to have the album art and title). So song after song I downloaded album covers from the internet except for this one -- Sinosikat?'s So Blue. I heard their self-titled album was launched recently so I'd expect I won't find any of its covers yet in the net.
I got frustrated. I couldn't find any its album cover at all until I got to this page Feed Detail. And in it was an embedded YouTube link about some YouTube user playing a piano-only cover of Smashing Pumpkins' Tonight, Tonight. This guy's cool, man! Yep, you were right, whoever-posted-that-entry! It did sent chills to my spine! Putang-ina, ang galing!!!

The Project Manager's Nightmare (Part 1)
Part 1: The Dream
Pipoy Mola is an aspiring project manager in a prestigious telecommunications company. Throughout his career he assisted managers and users in developing small programs that would hasten business processes in his department. He awed his officemates by his exemplary skills in programming in macros, visual basic and the simple but useful tool called Excel. Many times his colleagues asked him to teach them!
But all the while he wanted to do more than just those "small" things. He wants to accomplish "bigger" challenges. He starting off handling enhancements from one existing system to another. After that, he felt sure he wanted to implement projects, particularly systems, that would better support the needs of his colleagues, and even impact subscribers. He wants to be a real Project Manager!
He usually daydreams being given an award of excellence citing his unusual talent of implementing projects at the right time, within budget, according to scope and the best quality of work. Then one day, he finally got his opportunity! There was a gap in the group that needs to be addressed and he's the best man to do it! He placed a generous smile on his face but little did he know what nightmares he would face...

Light Grenades
Light grenades! Incubus' 6th album! This 13-track album was released late last year. For me, it's one of their usual cool music blend of Brandon's ever-elegant vocals and Michael's catchy guitar riffs. I particarly like "Dig", "Love Hurts", "Earth to Bella" (parts 1 & 2), "Oil and Water" and loads of other upbeat rock songs. I listen to this album on the way to work to get myself hyped for the day =). Wow, rock really still has a bigger part of my music soul! When asked about the album title, Brandon explained:
"There's a song called that on the record and it felt like the most pertinent conceptual aspect of the album, the idea of throwing ideas at problems and the ideas explode with light and good results and intention on consciousness. So I started imagining imagery of students in different countries protesting and throwing Molotov cocktails with masks over their faces. But there's one brave student who runs up to the police line and, as opposed to throwing rocks or things that destroy, there's this concept of that one courageous, lonely student running up and throwing ideas and having them actually change things. It just seemed kind of a cool concept: the redefining of weaponry." (Source: Wikipedia)
For all Incubus fans out there do check out their latest album!
"DIG"
We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easier to identify
Look me in the eye and ask for forgiveness
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again
Yes, you are my friend
We all have something that digs at us
At least we dig each other
So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on the me from yesterday
If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone
We all have a sickness
That cleverly attaches and multiplies
No matter how hard we try
We all have someone that digs at us
At least we dig each other
So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine
If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone
Oh each other....
When everything else is gone.

Long time
Man oh man... it has been quite a while since i posted something decent in here. And oh yes, i have to get up and stop sulking from the Cavs' loss to the Spurs in the Finals. That sucked, swept in 4 games... Anyways, alot have happened and i don't know where to start, but here goes...
1. Investing. I've been some investing the past few months. I wanted to explore stock trading so i joined in BPI Trade Online. There you can buy and sell stocks, and pretty much play around in the market. But if i had to be really adept and earn big from this, then i had to quit my day job. Haha, that won't happen now. The marketplace maybe isn't for me. But nonetheless i bought stocks from Ayala Corp, Filinvest and some oil company called Oriental and Petroleum something. And i'm happy to say they're growing a bit... a bit slow... but yes it was worth it. I can say my investment grew more or less 15% =)
2. Investing again. This time, it's mutual funds. I took the time and get to know how it works, and the most that i can afford is from SunLife Asset Management's. It only cost me 10K to open a Balanced mutual fund and so far it's doing great. 9% for practically doing nothing.
3. Investing pa rin. A friend introduced this kind of investment to me. It's a high-risk-high-yield type. But who doesn't want to be interested in this? Just imagine, you invest $100. For 100 days you earn back 2.6% or $2.6 PER DAY. Am I kidding y0u? Nope, i'm not. I saw it myself. That's a whopping 160% ROI in 100 days and you literally don't have to do anything! You can sit on your ass the whole day or do the usual stuff--work, gimik, sleep, eat, etc. The important thing is that it's earning everyday. Is this freaking real? Yep. Is it a scam? Probably. How does this investment company earn? Forex and casinos. Black market and terrorist cells, perhaps? Possibly, but I don't care =). I started mine a week ago. It's already a third away from earning back my initial investment. Woohooo! Once i earn back evrything, i'll play around with the rest of the earnings. Btw, you can invest as much as a thousand dollars and get as much as 3% a day. Mmmmm... nice!
4. My personal juicy tsismis. Oooohhh you naughty, naughty girl! I've heard from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend, etc... There were bits of details here and there, and finally when I was trying to piece the puzzle together, somehow it makes sense now! Bwahahaha! You naughty girl! Hehehehe. Anyway, this doesn't make sense to you, so just disregard this =D
5. Work. Work sucks, but not in general. Just this cursed project. The beaurocracy! Some people just really are...
6. Lastly, decision-making. Should i stay or should i go? I've been pondering for the past few months, and this could be my ticket out of the rat race, out of this day job. I want to become my own boss! but of course, huge sacrifices have to be made... As of this point, i'm leaning towards this goal, say around 60-40. I just need a little more convincing. =)

Utter disorder
Everything is just not in order this week! And it's just Wednesday!
First, my slide phone got busted. Its screen blacks out when I either slide up or slide down. Sometimes, the screen turns into tiny bands of all colors you can think of. To say the least, it's still functioning, I just can't see what I'm doing. Worse, when someone texts I can't read the damn message. Worst, when someone calls I don't know who it is. Whenever I answer, I try really hard to recognize the voice. If I couldn't, I apologize and ask for his name and explain everything again what had happened.
Second, someone took my damn phone charger without my knowledge. Curse you!!! Return it, please!
Third, work. We're supposed to have finished our testing of an enhanced application by Monday. Cut-over was supposed to be yesterday. But no, technical support is MIA for the past 2 weeks, that's why we are behind schedule. And I will be on my 6-day long vacation starting tomorrow! Who's gonna oversee the cut-over? Who's gonna facilitate shallow testing? Good thing there's Dude who's happy to do the job for me ;)
Last, my office desktop is a mess. My PC desktop is a mess. My apartment is a mess (... but my life is so NOT a mess). I have to clean up... when I get back.

Last Sunday
Last Sunday, I had the opportune time to visit and get to know her dad. I was supposed to wake up at 6:30 am but lo, the clock said 8:00am. Taking a quick shower, I raised to get my ass to her house. Just in the nick of time, when I got there everyone else was ready to go. Lola had her umbrella, Sister carrying the Scrabble board, Mom holding on to the picnic basket and my girl waiting and wearing a frown :s. I was late. She stalled their departure for as long as she can. They could have left me, and I'm glad they didn't. She's a sweet one! :)
I took the wheel and drove all the way to Sucat. Along the way we bought some food and flowers. A few minutes from our stop, we arrived at her Dad's place. It was a perfect Sunday morning for a family reunion. The sky was clear and weather was fair.
We unloaded our stuff and her Mom took care of the picnic basket and unfolded the blanket under a nice shady tree. My girl took my hand and we walked towards him. She introduced me to him, I said Hello but he responded only with a breeze of silence.
I looked down and stared at the ground. The grass are surprsingly green and fresh this time of the year, I thought. The memories may have been fresh, too, no doubt. Written on a stone was his name and two dates. Tomorrow would have been his birthday. Two days from then would be the date of remembrance.
It never hit me before. I've never experienced those kind of emotions when you lose someone dear to you. I stood silent for a moment, I looked at her and smiled. I was happy for my girl despite the tragic event that had happened. She has become stronger and stronger each day for the past 13 years.
Life is indeed an experience, and tragic events are just one of the sad parts. How you handle these kind of situations determines what you will become and how strong you will be. ;p

Sigh... all I can say is that I missed this climb. This is supposed to be GAC's 4th and last training climb for the year. They say it was one of the best climbs ever, albeit there were only 7 of them. I wasn't able to make it because I had the flu and I don't wanna risk it even though I already felt better. Nevertheless, here are some pix for you to enjoy =) Next year, I'll be back to trek this mountain. =)

a reason to be happy
The NBA, my Cleveland Cavaliers...
Today is the last day of the season. Chicago and Cleveland are forcing themselves for the No. 2 against the No. 5 spot. Whichever got the higher winning percentage, of course, gets the top seed. The Cavs are 1/2 game behind Chicago and currently at 5th. Whichever is 5th gets to play against Miami (4th) in the first-round of the playoffs, and I don't want that, not this early in the playoffs. Cleveland has to win and Chicago has to lose today... and thank you God for granting my little request. Huweee!

The High Peak
Destination: Mt. Tapulao
aka: High Peak
Location: Iba, Zambales
Elevation: 2,047 meters
Trail: Unpaved roadway

Mt. Tapulao has one of the most breath-taking sceneries in Northern Luzon. It towers more than 2,000 meters above sea level and is considered one of the highest peaks in the Philippines.

This was just my 2nd climb as a trainee of GAC and I would say that this is one of the easier climbs (compared to Mt. Tarak) because this this time I was more than ready. I already bought a North Face (Skareb 40) bag for only 2,800 bucks (not bad huh?) and trekking shoes to finally protect those precious feet of mine. I also made sure that trail food will not be a problem.
We hired a van to ease our minds from all the trouble of getting to the bus station on time (what happened last time was that we almost got ourselves killed when the mini-bus raced to catch the last bus to Manila). Our transpo dropped us at the jump-off point in Dampay Salaza, Iba, and did the usual courtesy call to the barangay. Our trek started at 6 am and it was going to be a long and torturous walk uphill.

Tapulao is actually a mountain range running through Zambales. It is also known that it will take around 10 hours to traverse 2 mountain tops until you get to the highest peak.
Well, we did it in 4 1/2 hours. Ahem.
Yeah right? It's true, man! That is if you hitched a ride on a truck. Hehehe. I know, I know it's a shame but I admit it. It just so happened that my co-trainee had problems with her bag. The pain that was caused by the bag was so unbearable that the Sweeper gave us the nod to hitch a ride.

Anyway, the ride uphill was just awesome. I have never seen such beautiful and picturesque mountains before. Everything looked amazing from the mountain top down to the sea. There's even a part of the trail wherein you are covered with pine trees overhead, and the breeze touches your face and cools you from the heat of the sun.

At 10:30 am we made it to a mine and it was going to be our stop. We didn't know that there was a mining operation for chromite that existed there. Anyway, the dudes there were cool. They helped us unload our bags. We didn't give them anything though except our thanks. Hehehe.
We walked for another 30 minutes 'til we reached the Camp Site, dropped our bags and ate lunch. Afterwards, it was all boredom. We literally had nothing to do because technically we should have been there later at 5 pm and by then we could set camp and cook dinner.

Everyone was bored, it was noon and it was hot. I found myself a nice shade under a pine tree, and slept through the afternoon while listening to Chillout songs from my iPod. Steady lang, mhen. One good thing though was that there was a signal on my cel so I called Tots and told her everything that happened that morning. Madaya daw kami. Hehehe.

At 5 pm I pitched our tent and started cooking dinner (I assisted, by the way). Dinner was delicious and en grande! Our group made chicken tinola and soup , and not those sissy-ass hotdogs or corned beef or instant noodles kind of stuff. The other group made pork sinigang, too! Yum!

Socials came in after and ended very early because only one dude brought alcohol! Sheesh. And I intentionally did not bring one because it adds more weight to my pack. In GAC, it is customary to bring at least one quatro-kantos during a climb. The members were pissed about this that they raised this issue in our post-climb meeting.
At 4:30 am the followin morning, we readied ourselves for the summit assault. Headlamps, jackets and all, and oh, cameras! Lots of cameras! It took an hour to reach the highest peak. Again, it was a beauty! Sunrises are just so spectacular to watch!

By 8 am we were back in the camp site, preparing breakfast and packed lunch. Break camp by 9:30 and descent by 10 am. I'm telling you, man, down trekking is hell! Imagine 7 hours of torture, sniffing dust from the dirt road, little stones seeping into your shoes, bigger pointed rocks hurting your soles and crazy downhill slopes threating to blow your knees! But fortunately, our prayers were answered that morning. There was not a hint of sun the whole afternoon and no one was injured. God is good indeed.
The last group to arrive at the jump-off point, the Sweeper's Pack, that's us, was at 5 pm. We took our baths and headed home. No pressure to catch a bus here! We had dinner in Chowking Olongapo and was back onto our precious beds by 1 am of Monday. Work starts in 7 hours, and I was not late =).

Free Net Access
I borrowed a laptop for the weekend, got home and fiddled on it while watching tv. Hey, what does this button do? Oohh... its for the Wireless LAN. And to my surprise, several networks were detected. I tried connecting to one, and voila! free, instant and fast internet connection. And this blog entry is my proof. Hehehehe.
Why pay for one when you can get it for free? ;) If you're living in one of those condominiums, chances are there are some people who have these routers. Fortunately, some of them could not care less to put in security or password into their network. Lucky me.
Okay, need to sleep. Already checked my emails, friendster, fantasy leagues, stocks and blogs.

Conquering Mt. Tarak
Lessons learned:
1. Get enough rest the night before a climb. I woke through it all, attended a friend's birthday and attended a friend's dad's funeral... how ironic.
2. Pack smart and pack light. My backpack weighed a ton because I shoved in 4 sets of clothes instead 2 and dumped in a hammock that I didn't even use. I also carried 3 additional liters of water for a climb buddy.
3. Don't wear sandals! This is probably the stupidest thing I did. My feet didn't get a good grip so I slipped a dozen times nearly plucking my toe nails. Sandals stresses your feet more than normal, thus I got cramps all the way to the summit, literally I crawled just to through the agony.
Through it all, it was hard yet exciting. A lot of bad experience but I welcome them all with open arms. In the end, you wake up early morning and get captivated by the view. You are on top of the world. It was worth it all.

in the spotlight
Playing with me was Wally, another great guitar talent and way better than me, btw (damn, need to practice more). He did more of the instrumental part while I did most of the rythms. Our singers were Ainah, Wilma and Paolo, and mostly sang lounge renditions appropriate for a formal dinner. We played 1. Can We Just Stop And Talk A While by Gary V, 2. Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell, 3. Emotions by Destiny's Child, and 4. Knocks Me Off My Feet by Stevie Wonder.
Man, oh man! Our singers were great! And we played one heck of a performance too! ;)
Hehehe, wish I could do this more often... doing things away from work... and get to be on the spotlight even for little while.

"Fun" Facts
Last week was a very, very, if I may say, interesting experience. I have been marathoning a TV series and somehow it confirmed and contradicted "very common" facts that we encounter in our everyday lives or in those we encounter by surprise. Take these for example.
Fact #1: Everybody lies. White lies, or honest-to-goodness lies, lies are lies, whether planned or instantaneous.
Fact #2: Everybody lies for a reason. But do you even sometimes wonder why people still lie even if they are dying, or even if they know they will hurt someone?
Fact #3: The most common reason for lying is to protect his/her reputation. Ok, I just made this up... there may be some truth here.
Fact #4: The truth can either make your toes tingle or hurt you in general... either sweet or taste like shit?... bittersweet?
Fact #5: People DON'T change for the better. They just want others to see them they've changed, which brings me back to Fact #1. Once a _____, always a _____. People, however, DO change for the worse! People like me, perhaps?
Fact #6: Revenge can be oh-so-sweet! Yeah... very tempting, but I advise all of you to drop it. Let Him handle it for you, but don't wish for it to be some bad kharma either.
Fact #7: People cheat. Hell yeah, in exams, in careers, in love maybe?
